Things to do after a day on the slopes
You go on a ski holiday to practice your ski skills end enjoy the winter scenery. But after a long day skiing on the slopes, unwinding is good, not only for your mind but for your body too.
Roman BathsAt the top of anyone’s list is the Bagni Vecchi (0342-910131), the Old Spa, about 3 km. from town, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This fascinating spa has been in operation since the Roman Days, perhaps longer. It is fed by nine thermal springs with water gushing out of the earth at a temperature between 100 and 115 degrees. The baths are divided into six experiences: the sweating cave, Medieval bath, Imperial bath, Roman bath, an outdoor pool and aroma therapy. An afternoon here is an experience that one thinks Disney may have designed with spectacular vistas, dark caves, thermal waterfalls and mud baths. Make reservations.
Thermal BathsThe new Thermal Baths, in town, are less evocative, but the services are top flight and a bit less expensive than the ancient baths. You have a spectacular view of the Stelvio slope, especially at night when the slope is floodlit. There is a thermal sauna and turkish bath, both powered by naturally heated waters. There also is a new outdoor area for families which includes an outdoor swimming pool with a thermal-water slide . The newer baths have all the normal spa treatments such as hydromassage and fango wraps.
Ice SkatingBormio also has an indoor skating rink. It’s speed skating team is one of the best in Italy.
