Val Gardena Ski Resort
In the Val Gardena ski resort there are 175 km of slopes and 98 km of cross-country slopes. The uphill transportation devices are 83, (a part of 500km interconnected slopes surrounding the Sella Group).
In addition the Val Gardena ski resort is part of the "Dolomiti Superki", the biggest "ski carussel " of the Alps with more than 450 uphill transportation devices and more than 1220 km of slopes.
With one of the planet’s most spectacular set of mountains punctuated by countless charming villages, quality hotels and great eating, the Val Gardena ski resort is so good they named it twice.
The ski resort in Val Gardena or Groednertal might be confusing to visitors trying to find it on a map but that’s the price you pay to maintain the multicultural local traditions that define this part of the Sud Tirol… or is that Alto Adige? Both, actually.
The multiple names (some of the mountains have as many as three) are a result of the languages spoken by locals: Italian, German and Ladin, an ancient tongue also used in parts of southern Switzerland. There’s English too, for tourists, though the area has its strongest following in Germany, as the experience on and off mountain reflects: plentiful lifts , excellent snowmaking and piste preparation, terrific mountain restaurants and comfortable hotels , along with pockets of thumping après-ski .
As in most of the Dolomite ski areas, vertical drop in the ski resort of Val Gardena is not great on piste – the top two-thirds of these spectacular mountains are rocky cliff faces – but the skiing is extensive and easily accessible, and there’s no shortage of vertical (or good snow) on the north facing slopes of the Marmolada , a huge glacier to the south of the ski area. The 26km Sella Ronda circuit is the best known big-day-out and there are plenty of other areas to ski even before making full use of the Dolomiti Superski Pass to ski in Cortina d’Ampezzo (an easy day trip by car or bus) or one of countless other more modest ski areas.
